Background:

Central America in the process of strengthening its transportation infrastructure to emerge as a regional logistics hub, leveraging its geographical advantage connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. This project will contribute to the country’s climate change mitigation efforts by promoting clean transit options, proposing a sustainable mobility solution such as an electric rail-based transit line, and building specific technical capacities.

Main Objetive:

Support the Government of El Salvador (GOES) explore the viability of the Pacific Train & Rail network for cargo and possibly passenger transport. As well as contribute to advancing national economic and commercial.

Expected Outcome:

The deliverables of this project, such as key activities, analyses and written reports, will lay the groundwork for a potential PPP, considering the technical, economic, financial, and socio-environmental viability of the Pacific Train rail network for freight and passenger transport in El Salvador. Moreover, the ultimate outcome of this project is to establish the foundation to advance national and intra-regional trade via efficient and clean mobility.
